Sports court fence

A high mesh enclosure for ball courts, usually 4 m or 6 m high, with galvanised and plastic-coated wire, a 3000 × 4000 mm panel and posts and cross rails sized for the run. The height is the first thing to fix, because it decides the panel, the post and the wind load on the line.

Sports court fence is the high mesh enclosure around a ball court. The height is usually 4 m or 6 m. The wire is galvanised and then plastic-coated, and the coated wire is 3.8 mm; the mesh is 45 × 45 mm or 50 × 50 mm, and the panel is 3000 × 4000 mm.

The post is 60 mm tube with a 2.5 mm wall, and the cross rail is 48 mm tube with a 2 mm wall. The fittings that come with the system are the posts, the side lugs and the bolts, so the panel, the post and the rail are supplied as one build rather than as separate parts.

Anti-corrosion is by electro-galvanising, hot-dip galvanising, spraying or dipping, and a primer plus metal paint finish can be applied on request. Because the enclosure is tall, the run and the exposure decide the post spacing and the number of cross rails, so the layout is confirmed on the drawing.

The manufacturer also prints the heights used when the fence is not a plain court surround: for tennis courts, 3 m at the sides and 4 m at the ends; 4 m or more where the fence stands next to housing or a road; 0.8 m where a low surround is wanted; and 6 m or more for roof-top courts.
