Razor wire

Blade strip formed onto a high-tensile core wire and closed into a coil, hung as a topping above a fence, a wall or a gate. Concertina and flat-wrap are the two builds, in galvanised or stainless steel, with barbed wire as an alternative where the requirement is lighter. The manufacturer's site prints no figures for this product, so the blade dimensions, coil diameter, core wire diameter and fixing brackets are confirmed per order.

Concertina Flat-wrap Blade strip Galvanised Stainless steel Coils Barbed wire alternative

Razor wire is a blade strip — a flat steel tape with sharp edges formed along it — closed onto a high-tensile core wire, which carries the tension so the blade strip does not have to. Because the cutting edges run along the tape rather than at intervals, the whole length of the wire presents an edge, and that is what separates it from barbed wire, where short barbs are twisted onto the strand at a spacing.

Two builds are supplied. In the concertina build the wire is closed into a helix and compressed into a coil, which is hung in a ring above the fence so that it springs open if it is disturbed. In the flat-wrap build the coil is stretched and laid flat along the top of the fence line, wall or gate, so it covers a run rather than a single ring. Both are supplied in coils and are cut and fixed on site by the installer to suit the line they are protecting.

The blade strip is galvanised or stainless steel, and the core wire is high tensile. Galvanised is the usual choice for a general perimeter; stainless steel is chosen where the wire will stand in coastal air or an aggressive industrial atmosphere and the owner wants to avoid the maintenance that a coated strip needs. Barbed wire is supplied as an alternative where the requirement is lighter or where razor wire is not acceptable on appearance or safety grounds — around a school, for example, or a boundary in public view.

The typical application is as a topping, not as a fence on its own: above a welded mesh panel, above a Y-post fence where the angled head carries it, above a masonry wall, and above or on a gate leaf. The manufacturer's site prints no figures for this product, so blade dimensions, coil diameter, core wire diameter and the fixing brackets are confirmed per order — tell us the fence or wall it goes on, the run length and the destination port.

Before you order

What you need to decide for razor wire

Razor wire is bought to suit the line it is fixed to. Four decisions fix the quotation, and all four are confirmed per order.

Concertina or flat-wrap

Concertina hangs as a compressed coil and springs open when disturbed, so it suits a fence line where a stand-off is wanted. Flat-wrap is stretched along the top of the fence, wall or gate and covers a run evenly. Tell us what the coil is being fixed to and which of the two builds the design calls for, and the coil diameter and blade dimensions are confirmed per order.

Blade strip in galvanised or stainless steel

Galvanised strip is the usual choice for a general perimeter. Stainless steel is chosen where the wire stands in coastal air or an aggressive industrial atmosphere, or where the owner wants to avoid the maintenance a coated strip needs. Tell us where the site is and the finish is confirmed per order.

Razor wire or barbed wire

Barbed wire is supplied as an alternative where the requirement is lighter, or where razor wire is not acceptable — around a school, for instance, or on a boundary in public view. Both are supplied in coils and both are fixed with brackets to the fence, wall or gate. Tell us which one the specification allows and we quote to it.

Fixing brackets and the run length

The brackets that carry the coil are chosen for the fence or wall it goes onto — a mesh panel top rail, the angled head of a Y-post, a masonry wall or a gate frame. Give us the run length in metres, the fence or wall detail and the destination port, and the brackets, the coil count and the loading plan are confirmed together.

Packing & shipping

How razor wire reaches your site

Coils and brackets shipped as one programme — compressed, strapped, labelled and loaded to the loading plan agreed for the order.

Export packing

Concertina coils are compressed and strapped so they stay closed in transit and do not open against other cargo; flat-wrap coils are strapped in the same way. Coils are handled with edge protection and packed so that the blade strip cannot cut the packaging or the handler. Brackets are bagged or boxed separately and every pack carries the build, the material and the order reference.

Loading plan

Confirmed per specification — send the drawing, quantity and destination port and we reply with MOQ, loading plan and lead time within one business day. Razor wire is light for its volume, so give us the run length in metres, the coil diameter and the container size and we build the loading plan on the coil count.

Documents & terms

We issue the proforma invoice, commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin. Documentation against a named standard is confirmed in writing per order. Payment terms and warranty are agreed per order and stated on the proforma invoice.
