Planter railing

A low railing around a planter, a lawn or a green belt, in coated steel or PVC, that keeps people and vehicles off the planting without walling it in. Run, height and colour are made to the project specification.

A planter railing is a low railing set around a planter, a lawn, a planted bed or a green belt, and its job is a quiet one: it keeps pedestrians from cutting across the planting, keeps a car or a scooter from parking on it, and gives the kerb a defined edge — without looking like a security fence. It is deliberately lower than a boundary railing, because it is not there to stop anyone who actually tries to get through.

It is made in coated steel or PVC. A coated steel railing is the usual choice along a road or on a street where the railing takes knocks and has to hold its shape over a long run; a PVC railing is chosen where the planting scheme leads and the railing should read as part of the landscape and hold its colour without repainting. Both are quoted from the drawing: run, height and colour are made to the project specification, so a curved bed, a stepped kerb or a change of level is set out on the drawing rather than improvised on site.

The manufacturer publishes no run, height or section figures for this railing, so the drawing sets them. Send the layout of the beds with the run in metres, the height you want, whether the railing follows a kerb or stands at the back of the planting, the colour reference and the destination port, and we confirm the sections, the post spacing and the colour on the shop drawing.

  • Use: planters, lawns, planted beds, roadside green belts and community planting.
  • Material: coated steel or PVC — made to the project specification.
  • Run, height and colour: made to the project specification — send us the drawing or the standard you follow.
  • Layout: curved runs, stepped kerbs and changes of level are set out on the drawing.
  • Post spacing and post fixing: made to the project specification and confirmed on the shop drawing.
  • Not intended for: vehicle impact, crowd control or boundary security — for those, the road guardrail, the crowd-control barrier and the zinc-steel perimeter railing in the same family are quoted instead.
  • Buyers who need CE / EN / ASTM documentation: tell us the standard and we will confirm in writing what we can supply.
Before you order

What you need to decide for a planter railing

A planter railing is a small item on a big layout, so the drawing and a few decisions do all the work.

The layout and the run

Send the plan of the beds with the run in metres, including the curves, the corners and any gap for a path or a crossing. The run and the layout are made to the project specification, so the railing is set out from your drawing rather than adapted on site.

Height and where it stands

Height is made to the project specification and to what the railing has to discourage: a low rail for a lawn edge, a slightly higher one where the railing stands at the back of a planted bed. Tell us whether it follows the kerb or sits behind the planting, and the post spacing and fixing follow from that.

Coated steel or PVC

Coated steel where the railing takes knocks along a road and has to hold its shape over a long run; PVC where the planting leads and the railing should stay part of the landscape and keep its colour without repainting. Both are quoted from the drawing — tell us the location and we confirm the material and the finish on the shop drawing.

Colour, and what the railing is not for

The colour is made to the project specification, so send the reference or a sample and it is confirmed on the shop drawing. A planter railing is not a vehicle barrier and not a security fence — if the requirement is actually one of those, tell us and we quote the road guardrail, the crowd-control barrier or the zinc-steel perimeter railing from the same family instead.

Packing & shipping

How planter railing reaches your site

Rails, posts and fittings shipped as one programme — bundled by run and by bed, labelled and loaded to the loading plan agreed for the order.

Export packing

Rails, posts and bars are bundled by section, and where a scheme has several beds the bundles are marked bed by bed so that each bed can be set out without sorting the delivery. Every bundle carries the colour, the section and the drawing number, and the packing method is confirmed per specification on the packing list.

Loading plan

Confirmed per specification — send the drawing, quantity and destination port and we reply with MOQ, loading plan and lead time within one business day. Give us the total run and the container size and the loading plan is built so that the longer rails are not buried under the shorter bundles.

Documents & terms

We issue the proforma invoice, commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin. Documentation against a named standard is confirmed in writing per order. Payment terms and warranty are agreed per order and stated on the proforma invoice.
