Chain-link fence

A woven diamond mesh for sports grounds, parks, roads, farms and general perimeter enclosure. The mesh is made by pre-bending and threading the wire, so the panel is flexible and follows the ground rather than needing a dead-level footing.

Chain-link fence is a woven mesh, not a welded one: the wire is pre-bent and then threaded through the strand above and below it, so the wires cross in a diamond pattern instead of being welded at every intersection. That woven construction is what gives the panel its flexibility — it can be pulled around corners and it follows ground level along the run. The wire diameter ranges from 1.5 mm to 4 mm, and the mesh aperture is commonly 50 × 50 mm, 60 × 60 mm or 70 × 70 mm, with other apertures available.

Panels are supplied in sizes such as 1 m × 2 m, 1.5 m × 2 m, 2 m × 2.5 m and 2 m × 3 m, and other sizes can be made. The posts are square or round section, and the surface is either PVC coated or hot-dip galvanised; the colour is mainly green and blue. Chain-link is used for sports grounds, parks, roads, farms and general perimeter enclosure, where a light, open mesh line is wanted rather than a rigid panel.

Before you order

What you need to decide

Five choices fix the panel and the post, and they all have to be settled before we can confirm the build in writing.

  • Wire diameter and mesh aperture: 1.5–4 mm wire with 50 × 50, 60 × 60 or 70 × 70 mm mesh is the common range; tell us the aperture you want if it sits outside those.
  • Panel size and run length: 1 × 2, 1.5 × 2, 2 × 2.5 and 2 × 3 m panels are the published sizes, and the run length decides how many panels and posts the order needs.
  • Post type: square or round section, with the caps and fittings that match the section you choose.
  • Surface and colour: PVC coated or hot-dip galvanised, and mainly green or blue.
  • Site conditions: chain-link is a woven mesh and follows ground level, so tell us the slope along the run, the corners to be turned and the gate openings.
