Anti-climb Y-post fence

Welded mesh panels carried on Y-shaped posts. The post head is angled, so there is no top rail and no flat ledge for a climber to take hold of. Optional razor wire or barbed topping is fixed in the angled head. Used for airports, prisons, substations, warehouses and other perimeters where climbing has to be made as difficult as the design allows.

An anti-climb Y-post fence is a welded mesh panel fixed to posts whose top is bent into a Y or peach shape. The panel sits inside the fork of the post, so the fence line has no continuous top rail running along it and no flat cap for a hand to close on. The angled head leans out over the line of the fence, which takes away the straight, reachable edge that a climber would normally use at the top of a mesh panel.

Where the fence has to be made harder still to cross, the fork of the post is used to carry a topping: concertina razor wire, flat-wrap razor wire or barbed wire is fixed in the angled head above the mesh, so the wire overhangs the panel rather than sitting on top of it. The same post and panel build is used with or without the topping, so a perimeter can be specified in two stages if the project is built in phases.

The fence is normally specified for high-security boundaries: airports and airfields, prisons and detention facilities, electricity substations and switchyards, fuel depots, warehouses and logistics yards, water treatment sites, and industrial plants. In each case the point of the specification is the same — the perimeter should resist being climbed, cut through or pulled apart by hand, and the mesh aperture, wire diameter, panel height and post spacing are what decide that behaviour.

Mesh aperture, wire diameter, panel height and post spacing are made to the project specification. Send us the drawing or the standard you follow and we confirm in writing what we can supply against it. We claim no security rating and no certification for this fence. Whether a perimeter satisfies a given security requirement is decided by the buyer's design and by the standard the project is built to, not by this page.

  • Structure: welded mesh panel carried in the fork of a Y-shaped (or peach-shaped) post, with no top rail along the fence line.
  • Anti-climb detail: the post head is angled out so there is no flat, reachable ledge or cap at the top of the fence.
  • Topping options: concertina razor wire, flat-wrap razor wire or barbed wire fixed in the angled post head; the same build works with or without it.
  • Applications: airports and airfields, prisons and detention facilities, substations and switchyards, fuel depots, warehouses and logistics yards, water treatment sites and industrial plants.
  • Mesh aperture: made to the project specification — send us the drawing or the standard you follow.
  • Wire diameter: made to the project specification — send us the drawing or the standard you follow.
  • Panel height: made to the project specification — send us the drawing or the standard you follow.
  • Post spacing and post section: made to the project specification — send us the drawing or the standard you follow.
  • Surface finish: made to the project specification — send us the drawing or the standard you follow.
  • No security rating and no certification is claimed for this fence; the buyer's design and the project standard govern whether the perimeter is accepted.
Before you order

What you need to decide for an anti-climb Y-post fence

Four decisions fix the price and the delivery of a security perimeter. Give us these and the quotation can be built on the drawing rather than on assumptions.

Mesh aperture, wire diameter and panel height

The aperture decides how much can be reached through the panel, the wire diameter decides what hand tools can cut it, and the height decides how much has to be climbed. All three are made to the project specification — send us the drawing or the standard you follow and they are confirmed on the shop drawing. Give us the total perimeter length, the corners, the gates and the ground conditions along the run.

Post section and spacing

Post spacing and post section are made to the project specification, and they go together with the panel size and the wind load on the site. Tell us the standard you follow and the site exposure, and the post section, the wall thickness, the base detail and the spacing are confirmed in writing on the shop drawing.

Whether there is a topping, and which one

Concertina razor wire, flat-wrap razor wire and barbed wire are the three options fixed in the angled head of the post above the mesh. Which one is used, and whether it is needed at all, follows the security requirement and the appearance the owner accepts; the same post build carries any of them, so the decision can be left until after the fence line itself is priced.

Finish, gates and the standards question

Finish is made to the project specification and follows the environment — coastal air, industrial atmosphere or an inland city site. Matching gates, corner posts and the connection to an existing boundary are quoted with the fence. On standards, be clear about what is being asked for: tell us the security or fence standard the project follows and we confirm in writing what we can supply against it. We claim no security rating and no certification.

Packing & shipping

How anti-climb Y-post fence reaches your site

Panels, posts, topping coils and fittings shipped as one programme — bundled, labelled and loaded to the loading plan agreed for the order.

Export packing

Mesh panels travel as steel-banded flat bundles, Y-posts as their own bundles with the angled heads protected against damage in transit, and razor wire or barbed topping as coils. Bolts, brackets and gate fittings are bagged or boxed separately. Every bundle carries the panel size, the aperture, the finish and the drawing reference.

Loading plan

Confirmed per specification — send the drawing, quantity and destination port and we reply with MOQ, loading plan and lead time within one business day. Mesh panels are bulky for their weight, so give us the container size and the panel size you are ordering and we plan the bundle count and the loading sequence to it.

Documents & terms

We issue the proforma invoice, commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin. Documentation against a named standard is confirmed in writing per order. Payment terms and warranty are agreed per order and stated on the proforma invoice.
